mr maxs pronunciation

"epitome of hyperbole" is the picture of exaggeration...literal translation

the funny part was the pronunciation...it was incorrect...
it should be "ee-pit-oh-me of hi-per-bo-lee" not "epit-ohm of hyper-bowl"

kattie Oct.23

Oh wow that was kinda scary for some reason the blog site wouldn't work something a cookie that was broken? !
K well today in math class we learned about Probablyility Introduction and Pathway Problems
is like a pattern and keeps being added together.

So I was going to put a Plinko picture on here but then I decided that everyone knew what it was anyways. and I haveta go finish my silly english wif Linz. hope this helps somewhat. Well i really have no clue who hasn't done this again.. so.. should I pick Nicole? has she been picked? i hope not if he has im sorry and i'll find someone else fast.. thanx

Correction For Ex 4 # 8

There is an error in the answer key for question eight on exercise 4

The correct answer should be:

The plane vector is 300 mph, the wind vector is 90 mph, the resultant vector is about 314 mph, and the distance travelled after 1.25 hours is 392.5 miles in a direction of 302 degrees.

Triangle Solver...

i think this is the solver that mister max said not to use. woops.

http://www.trig.ionichost.com/trig.php?anglea=&angleb=141&anglec=&sidea=77&sideb=&sidec=44&submit=Solve+It%21

and another one i found on google

http://home.att.net/~srschmitt/script_plane_triangles.html

and again, another

http://www.coolwebeffects.net/cm/trianglesolver.html

enjoy!

also, though it is totally irrelivent to triangle solvers, check out my blogger.com blog at http://captainsship.blogspot.com/ . :-)

Tuesday October 10th Post

Happy Turkey Day!!!

I will try to make this as entertaining and as mentally stimulating as I think it needs to be.

We started with the wonderful mental math.
Then we corrected/reviewed the answers to questions 1,2,5,and 7
**Check out the questions we corrected on the coursework drive because I don't know how to link things like that...I'm nearly computer illiterate
A note about answering questions...The way Max would like you to answer is, as an example: The resultant vector is measured to be 16.613 cm, which according to scale is 166.13 lbs in a direction of 70 degrees South of West or a bearing of 200 degrees or W 70 degrees S

The definition of a newton is: A unit used to measure the force it takes to move one kilogram of an object one meter in one second
The definition of "lb" is: the abbreviation for a pound or the Roman weight libra

Just a note...every time you forget to draw a vector head, Mr. Max must take a half mark deduction...and no one really wants to lose marks on something so small
Another note...Remember to fix points on Euklid when drawing the questions out

PARALLELOGRAM METHOD

1. Create the first vector, with itstail on the origin according to the scale.
2. Create V2 with its tail ALSO on the origin, aligned tail-to-tail with the first vector.
3. Construct parallels to each vector, such that a parallelogram is created.
4. Create he resultant vector. Its tail must be tail-to-tail-to-tail with the other two tails, and its head must be head-to-head-to-head with the newly constructed parallelogram sides.

The assignment is page B-6 #9 by hand or on Euklid if you have it at home or suddenly starts to work...

I thought this cartoon was appropriate considering its only one day after Thanksgiving.

October 5, 2006. Vector Review

Thus saith the_Captain_r2: Math is Keen.

Okay, we start the day with a bit of mental math. 10 questions, i'd tell you my mark, but it might be embarrassing. I haven't got it corrected yet, anyways. :-P

Review over the Homework Question. Here's the answer.

Mr. Max explained this problem straight after Mental Math. Glad he did, I got it wrong. *blush* The answer is: The magnitude of the resultant vector is 13.919 cm which is, according to scale, 139.19 N in a direction 6 degrees North of East. And now... hurray, we get to send messages to Mr. Max, and I said math is keen. This is a great class.

Lesson for Today - Okay, guess there may not be a lesson. Or perhaps that was the lesson.

Assignment - Triangle Method -Exercise #3: Questions #1, #2, #5, #7.

Hmmm, this is a short post and it kinda makes me sad. Ok, I guess this is almost it.

The vector was walking down cartesian drive when he bumbed into a confused Scalar. The vector asked him what was wrong and he replied, "Help i have no direction."

Before I forget, the scribe for tomorrow will be... (drum roll) MR. MAX! haha, sorry, no, I will nominate Squeaker. *squeak squeakin', squeak squeak'em*

My apologies to Marsha...

I'm so sad. In my haste to save some settings from last week, I neglected to 'turn on' the ability to comment on Marsha's fantastic post (below this one...). Alas...and I was so looking forward to saying some nice things about Marsha (and her great post!!!)....so here goes (and please add to what I've already said...

Are you kidding me? What an awesome post. It's so obvious that you guys are so much better at this stuff than I am, which means you're also really patient with me. I promise tons of expertise with the math, and a little with the blogs, but we'll definitely get better with this over the fall and winter semester.

Not only did Marsha include some great graphics, and some fairly fantastic links (more on that in a moment), but I think most importantly she maintained a mathematical focus while still keeping her personality and sense of humour intact. Posting (and commenting) is difficult, and I've had some conversations with some of you privately about what makes a good post for our class.....sooooo,

THIS IS A GOOD POST! (Marsha's below). Keep up the great work! You're setting the bar very high, and I like that. One of my evolution professors in my science degree always used to say that with no stress on a system, there can be no change to the status quo. (Nice guy, came to my wedding, ask me about him sometime...) Anyway, and I really believe this, "If we keep doing what we've been doing for it's own sake, we'll never learn about what may be better"...

The links Marsha left are great, but especially try out the second one (you need Shockwave to run the Applet), and if you can 'play' with it before class on Tuesday (Post Secondary Day tomorrow), you'll be that much further ahead when I teach how to start to add vectors.

Marsha, great joke, I'm showing my wife ASAP...

Later,

RM
